The Woodland Opera House opened its 2008-09 Theatre For Families Season with The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Mark Twain’s classic story comes to exuberant musical life in this Broadway adaptation of America’s favorite book. After opening on Friday, August 15 the show continues to run through Sunday, September 14, Shows are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There will be one Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. on August 30.The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer is the irresistible story of a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America. This Broadway musical version of Mark Twain’s immortal novel is set in 1840 in St. Petersburg, Missouri, a bustling town on the banks of the Mississippi River. Filled with foot-stomping, toe-tapping songs by Don Schlitz (”The Gambler”), and a warm, funny book by Ken Ludwig (”Crazy For You,” “Lend Me A Tenor”), The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer is a tale of thrilling escapes, comedy and inspiration for the whole family. The show is directed and choreographed by Amy Vyvlecka with additional choreography by Tyler Warren. Music Direction is provided by Laura Snell.
