'S Wonderful: Alley extends "American in Paris"

The Alley Theatre is extending the run of its world premiere musical "The Gershwins' An American in Paris," originally scheduled to end June 1, for an additional two weeks of performances, through June 15.Playwright Ken Ludwig, who scripted the previous "new" Gershwin hit "Crazy for You," has written a new libretto to frame some 20 songs by the fabled fraternal team of George and Ira Gershwin. The plot is an imagined, backstage prequel to the making of the Oscar-winning film "An American in Paris."The show features a cast of Broadway veterans, led by Harry Groener, Kerry O'Malley, Jeffrey Denman, Meredith Patterson and Felicia Finley. Alley artistic director Gregory Boyd has directed, with lively choreography by multiple Tony nominee Randy Skinner. The lavish production design also is the work of top Broadway talents: sets by Douglas W. Schmidt, costumes by Carrie Robbins and lighting by Paul Gallo.
