An American in Paris

This hilarious new musical comedy takes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the legendary movie-musical.

Reuniting Ken Ludwig, George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin – the team behind the Broadway smash Crazy For You – this new American musical tells the story of Michel Gerard, the greatest music hall singer in Paris.

When Michel fails to turn up at Monumental Pictures’ Paris studio for the filming of a new musical, Studio Head Louis Goldman sends his practical, no-nonsense secretary, Rebecca Klemm, to find the missing star – and when the legendary Parisian crosses swords with the indomitable American, nothing short of fireworks ensue.

A blissful prequel to the famous movie, the show features some of the best-loved songs written by George and Ira Gershwin including: “’S Wonderful,” “They All Laughed,” “Stairway to Paradise” and many more.

Original Cast and Creative Team

An American in Paris was first produced by The Alley Theatre (Gregory Boyd, Artistic Director; Dean R. Gladden, Managing Director) in Houston, TX on May 18, 2008. The production was directed by Gregory Boyd and the creative team included choreographer Randy Skinner, set designer Doug Schmidt, lighting designer Paul Gallo and costume designer Carrie F. Robbins. Rob Berman served as musical supervisor with orchestrations by Doug Besterman and Larry Blank.

The cast included Harry Groener - Michel Gerard; Kerry O'Malley- Rebecca Klemm; Felicia Finley - Hermia Chase; Jeffry Denman - Preston; Meredith Patterson - Yvette; Stephen DeRosa - Hamish; Alix Korey - Hilda; and Ron Orbach - Louis Goldman. The American in Paris ensemble includes Jeremy Benton, Sara Brians, Sae La Chin, Erin Crouch, Lianne Marie Dobbs, Michael Thomas Holmes, Drew Humphrey, James, Matthew Kirk, Tony Lawson, Alison Levenberg, Joseph Medeiros, Shannon M. O’Bryan, James Patterson, Wes Pope, Benjie Randall, Kristen J. Smith, JD Webster and Kristen Beth Williams.
